BL1004; Physiology & Structure (Teacher and module coordinator)
As part of this module I explore the key physiological processes that occur in plants (photosynthesis, transpiration, uptake and transport, hormone-homeostasis), and introduce basic structural concepts (vascular system, meristems, dermal tissue and parenchyma)
PS2002; Ecological Plant Physiology (Teacher and module coordinator)
This module explores the interactions between plants and ecosystems, focusing on how environmental influences determine plant growth, but also signal processes such as dormancy, germination and flowering.
PS3008; Plants in Hostile Environments (Teacher and module coordinator)
This module explores the remarkably capacity of plants to survive in extreme environments. Case studies focus on plants growing on metal-polluted soils, in fire-prone ecosystems or in “windy” environments.
BL3002; Evolution and Diversity (Teacher)
As part of this module I introduce the story of plant evolution, focussing on the roles of sporophyte and gametophyte in the life-cycle of plants.
EV1002; The Environment (Teacher)
As part of this module I introduce the concepts of pollution and toxicology.
AE3006; Aquatic biology (Teacher)
As part of this module I explore the solutions that aquatic plants have evolved to live in an aquatic environment where gas-exchange is impaired.
